My mother has a small backyard garden in the province, and I was quite amazed at how nice her veggies and fruits look. Of course they have the usual insect marks and occasional larva in them, but regardless, they were about the right size and very delicious! They don’t taste like chemicals or anything! It made me wonder what my mom actually uses as fertilizer.

And this is what I found out, my mom does not throw away the vegetable and fruit peeling, she puts them in a container, and then buries them at a far corner of her garden, and after a few weeks, compost is made!  And compost is a highly concentrated by-product of decomposition that have the necessary nutrients and minerals that plants need to grow! However,  the problem that she encounters are it attracts insects and other pests, not to mention the foul smell. So, what I did was get her a compost bin! And she instantly loved it! She no longer had to deal with insects and the foul  smell, and also, it was able to fit inside a kitchen cabinet! It was convenient and easy to use, after two weeks, her compost is ready, and all she needed to do is apply them on her plants! The compost bin was definitely the perfect gift for her!

Senior citizens need exercise too, but they often require a different type than others. If searching for the right exercises to do, then these can make up an excellent list.

1.Swimming: There’s a reason that so many senior citizens engage in swimming, and that’s because it’s one of the best exercises you can find. It’s gentle on the joints which is quite important during this stage of life. It does however give a great workout and ensure that the individual stays healthy and strong.

2.Walking: Most senior citizens have the ability to walk in some capacity, and therefore this is a favored type of exercise amongst this set. It’s important to regulate the heart rate, but overall this is a great exercise for seniors to engage in. It can be done indoors, outdoors, on a treadmill, or wherever will work best for the individual to keep them going.

3.Strength Training: So long as there is a careful eye placed on the amount of weight lifted, this is an excellent exercise to engage in. This can keep the body healthy and strong, and this becomes increasingly important as you age. There are plenty of strength training exercises that one can engage in, and therefore a nice variety is there for the taking.

4.Yoga: There are many different types of yoga and therefore one fit for senior citizens as part of their exercise regimen. Yoga is excellent because it offers up the perfect balance of flexibility, strength, and a bit of cardio so it goes a long way.

5.Stretching: If you can’t quite get into yoga yet or are looking for some simple exercises to do, then stretching can be an excellent type to try out. This is easy enough to do, even in the comfort of your home. It works well for senior citizens as it keeps their joints and muscles flexible and strong.

6.Biking: This can be easy on the joints as well which makes it a nice option for senior citizens. Those who wish to enjoy a bit of biking can try a stationary bike and then build their way up to be able to test their endurance as they go.

7.Low Impact Aerobics: It’s always important to check with a doctor first, but this can be an excellent type of exercise for senior citizens. There are some great classes or videos out there that target the senior citizen and this can keep the heart beating and the body lean and strong.

8.Elliptical: This is one exercise machine that tends to be safe for nearly everyone. It works the arms and the legs, but in a gentle and effective manner. Senior citizens may enjoy the workout that they get on here, but also find that they have fun doing it.

9.Dance: This is a great way to work off stress, stay fit, and of course get in your daily quota of exercise. For senior citizens that are looking for a fun exercise and outlet, dance is the perfect way to go.

10.Balance Ball: This is great for stability which can be an important aspect of being a senior citizen. This can help to strengthen the core and there are a variety of exercises that senior citizens may find to be helpful as they approach exercise.

Though not all exercises are appropriate for senior citizens, these happen to be top of the pack. These exercises can be great for keeping seniors healthy and strong as they age.
